Reissua varten tehtävä paperibyrokratia ei ota laantuakseen, nyt tosin kyseessä on ihan Suomen valtion (ja koko kansainvälisen yhteisön) pakottamat toimet. Iaesteen paperit on toimitettu toistamiseen Portugaliin, eli nyt täytyy vain odotella josko saan tietää hakeeko joku minut Lissabonin kentältä vaiko ei.
Mitä tahansa reissua varten täytyy olla jonkin sortin henkilöllisyystodistus matkassa. Viime syksyisen Lontoon reissun jälkeen Suomeen palatessani rajavartija kommentoi, että passini on menossa rikki. Kuvasivu oli alkanut haleta irti passin saumasta. Oli siis aika hankkia uusi passi. Pitkän vitkuttelun jälkeen tajusin, että nyt on toimittava jotta passin ehtii saada.
Lappeenrannan poliisilaitoksen aikavarausjärjestelmä antoi ajan neljän viikon päähän - Tornion seuraavalle päivälle. Nyt siis matkatessani isäni synttärijuhlille käyn samalla hoitamassa passipaperit kuntoon ja haen passin ennen Portugaliin lähtöä. Passikuvat kävin hakemassa eilen Lappeenrannasta, valokuvausliike Kuvarista valtakadulta. 4 kuvaa lähti 12 eurolla, mikä on alhaisin hinta ainakaan Tornio-Lappeenranta alueella. Kuva näyttää juuri siltä kuin olisin pyöräillyt 7 km keskustaan niin nopeasti kuin pystyin. Tätä passia ei sitten kellekään näytetä toisin kuin edellistä.

Bureaucracy is crazy, even after IAESTE papers I have some other stuff to do - like getting a new passport. Last year when returning from London, the border security people noticed that my passport is breaking down - the picture page is ripping off from the seam. So I'd have to get a new one even though I could still use my passport for a year more.
Getting the passport wasn't as easy as I thought. I tried to book a time to leave my passport application, since I didn't want to go there to wait for hours. Too bad the next free time for Lappeenranta was 4 weeks later! Thankfully you're able to get the passport wherever in Finland and since I was traveling to my dads birthdayparty to Tornio I decided to check the booking situation there. Ha ha - free time already for the next day (though I booked for a week later).
Passport pictures, oh the joy of those. I got the pictures from Kuvari-store in Valtakatu, where I was able to get 4 pictures for 12 euros - that's a bargain since I heard they could cost up to 20€ in Tornio! Though the picture looks like I had just driven 7 km with bike as fast as I could to be there before closing time. So this passport wont be shown to anyone else than security personnel around the world. So much for always having good pictures in official documents.

Harjoitteluun tukea / Funding
Harjoittelupaikka maksaa harjoittelun ajalta palkkaa n. 700-800 €/kk, josta ei lähde veroja Portugalissa. Soittelin sitten tuonne verotoimistoon, että mites tää hoidetaan. Meinasivat, että veroja pitää kyllä maksaa mutta liian isolla veroprosentilla jo nyt työskennellessäni ei pitäisi olla ongelmaa verojen suhteen. Tienattu summa pitää vaan merkitä ensi vuoden verolappuun.
Sain yliopistolta matka-apurahan 250€, joka siis käytännössä meni lentolippuihin. Parempi kuitenkin niinkin, eipä tarvitse huolestua ihan niin kauheasti miten rahat ensimmäisen kuukauden aikana riittää.
Erasmustukea en tosiaan saanut, vaikka Eurooppaan suuntaan. Sen tuoma 300€/kk ois toki ollut kiva lisä, mutta aina ei voi voittaa :)

The pay for the internship is around 700-800 €/month, which is ok considering Portugal's cost of living. Interesting point is that they wont take any taxes out of it, but I still need to pay them to Finland. I called the taxation office and they told me I have already now too high tax percent (8,5%) so I shouldn't worry on having to pay taxes when I return, but I have to mark the amount to the tax file I will receive next year.
I did receive a travel fund from the university worth of 250€ which went to the flight tickets. That was very nice thing, now I have the extra money to put on living during the first month.
I didn't receive any Erasmus-funding, even though I'm still in Europe. The 300 €/month would have been great additional money, but bureaucracy can't always go they way you'd want it to.

Lentoja / Flights
Jee, lennot on vihdoin varattu Portugaliin. Lippujen hinnat vaihtelivat päivä toisensa jälkeen ja sitten kun päätän ne vihdoin ostaa oli hinta mikä tahansa ei luottokortittoman ja väärän verkkopankin omistajalla ollutkaan mahdollisuutta ostaa lippua (kiitos Tapiola jälleen, harmi vaan kun olet niin halpa käyttää ulkomailla).
Työkaverin auttamana sitten saatiin lento ostettua tänään, maksoin vielä vähiten mitä olen nähnyt viimeisen viikon aikana. Lissaboniin 31.8 ja takaisin Helsinkiin 4.12 ja hinta vain 247,62 €.
Samalla varasin lennon Oulusta Helsinkiin 30.8, koska hinta oli matkalaukun kera vain 41€ versus VR:n 8h päiväjunamatka 37€ tai 70€/10h makuupaikalla yötä myöten.
Lähetin samalla myös CIMOon tarvitut lomakkeet, missä piti kertoa milloin saapuu ja tarviiko majoitusta jne.

It's been quite a hassle with booking the flight tickets. The prices kept changing daily, finally I decided to buy the tickets no matter what's the cost on 16th July evening. Except that the place where I wanted to buy them didn't accept debit card payments and the net bank option didn't have MY bank in the list (Thanks Tapiola again, too bad you're so nice to use abroad).
But with a little help from my work collegue I was able to book the flights today - and the price was actually smaller than yesterday. So I was able to book my flight to Lissabon and back to Helsinki from 31.8 to 4.12 for 247,62 €! Quite a bargain I have to say :)
I also booked flight from Oulu to Helsinki for 30.8 since it was cheaper than train - only 41 € (compared to train 37€/8 hours in a train during day, or 70 €/10h in sleeping cabin during night).
At the same time I also filled a confirmation form and send it to CIMO. In the form I accepted the place and let them know when I'm arriving in Portugal and if I need lodging (which I do).
