Reissua varten tehtävä paperibyrokratia ei ota laantuakseen, nyt tosin kyseessä on ihan Suomen valtion (ja koko kansainvälisen yhteisön) pakottamat toimet. Iaesteen paperit on toimitettu toistamiseen Portugaliin, eli nyt täytyy vain odotella josko saan tietää hakeeko joku minut Lissabonin kentältä vaiko ei.
Mitä tahansa reissua varten täytyy olla jonkin sortin henkilöllisyystodistus matkassa. Viime syksyisen Lontoon reissun jälkeen Suomeen palatessani rajavartija kommentoi, että passini on menossa rikki. Kuvasivu oli alkanut haleta irti passin saumasta. Oli siis aika hankkia uusi passi. Pitkän vitkuttelun jälkeen tajusin, että nyt on toimittava jotta passin ehtii saada.
Lappeenrannan poliisilaitoksen aikavarausjärjestelmä antoi ajan neljän viikon päähän - Tornion seuraavalle päivälle. Nyt siis matkatessani isäni synttärijuhlille käyn samalla hoitamassa passipaperit kuntoon ja haen passin ennen Portugaliin lähtöä. Passikuvat kävin hakemassa eilen Lappeenrannasta, valokuvausliike Kuvarista valtakadulta. 4 kuvaa lähti 12 eurolla, mikä on alhaisin hinta ainakaan Tornio-Lappeenranta alueella. Kuva näyttää juuri siltä kuin olisin pyöräillyt 7 km keskustaan niin nopeasti kuin pystyin. Tätä passia ei sitten kellekään näytetä toisin kuin edellistä.

Bureaucracy is crazy, even after IAESTE papers I have some other stuff to do - like getting a new passport. Last year when returning from London, the border security people noticed that my passport is breaking down - the picture page is ripping off from the seam. So I'd have to get a new one even though I could still use my passport for a year more.
Getting the passport wasn't as easy as I thought. I tried to book a time to leave my passport application, since I didn't want to go there to wait for hours. Too bad the next free time for Lappeenranta was 4 weeks later! Thankfully you're able to get the passport wherever in Finland and since I was traveling to my dads birthdayparty to Tornio I decided to check the booking situation there. Ha ha - free time already for the next day (though I booked for a week later).
Passport pictures, oh the joy of those. I got the pictures from Kuvari-store in Valtakatu, where I was able to get 4 pictures for 12 euros - that's a bargain since I heard they could cost up to 20€ in Tornio! Though the picture looks like I had just driven 7 km with bike as fast as I could to be there before closing time. So this passport wont be shown to anyone else than security personnel around the world. So much for always having good pictures in official documents.
