CDRsp

Siinä on minun työpaikka, CDRsp eli vähemmän tuttavallisesti nopean ja kestävän tuotekehityksen tutkimuslaitos. Laitos on Portugalin mittakaavassa ainoa ja sillä on Portugalin tiedekomitean (tms.) status toimia pelkästään tutkimuslaitoksena, eli laitoksen henkilöstöllä ei ole pakoitetta toimia opetustehtävissä. Laitoksen henkilökunta on aivan loistavaa porukkaa, he ovat hyvin avoimia ja tarjoavat apua ongelmatilanteissa ainakin paremmin tietävän ihmisen löytämiseksi.

Tutkimuskeskuksesta löytyy useita erilaisia laboratorioita mutta yleisesti ottaen keskuksen toiminta keskittyy erilaisten muottien sekä niiden valmistusmetodien tutkimiseen. CDRsp tekee tutkimusta niin ns. kovaa teollisuutta kuin esimerkiksi lääketiedettä varten. Täältä löytyy laitteistoa, jolla pystyy 3D-tulostamaan taso tasolta tietokoneella suunniteltuja muotoja - esimerkiksi toimivan jakoavaimen tai pyörän kettingit. Lisäksi täällä pystyy tekemään esimerkiksi käänteisen mallinnuksen jo olemassa olevasta tuotteesta. Näiden ohella täällä tehdään paljon tutkimusta ihmisten kudoksiin ja kudosproteeseihin liittyen.

Oma pieni tutkimusprojektini liittyy kuitenkin melkoisen tuttuun elinkaarimallintamiseen ja pääsen työni aikana käyttämään toista mallinnusohjelmaa kuin tutuksi tullutta GaBia. Tehtävänäni on selvittää miten tietokoneen näppäimistön parametreja (paksuutta, kokoa jne.) muuttaessa muuttuvat myös siitä aiheutuvat ympäristövaikutukset.

Alkuviikon olen purkanut yhden näppäimistön ja laskenut erinäisten osien lukumääriä (kuta kuinkin yhteensä 150). Eilen ja tänään olen selvittänyt vähän erinäisten näppäinten ja muiden osien ominaisuuksia (paino, pituus, leveys, korkeus jne.). Pääsen myös tänään aloittamaan materiaalintunnistuksen yhdessä laitoksen laboratoriossa, jotta saan tarkat tiedot mallinnusta varten.

Yep, the blue box is my work place, CDRsp or as less know "Research centre for rapid and sustainable product development". It's the only reseach centre in this field in Portugal and it has Portugal's science committee (or something like that) status to work only as research centre so the personnel doesn't need to teach at the Polytechnic of Leiria. The personnel are great and happy to help in any kind of problem. The atmosphere in the centre is awesome :)

The are multiple different kind of laboratories in the centre, but mostly I could say the reseach is based on different moldes and how to make them. CDRsp makes research for both university but also for industry. For example here's equipment on which it's possible to print 3D-model layer by layer from a model made with computer design tools, they have made a workable wrench and bike chains! It's possible to make a reverse computer model from already existing piece of product and add to these there's a lot of research done on human tissue and tissueprosthesis.


My own research project concentrates more on very well known topic to me - life cycle assessment and I will be using another assessment tool than GaBi that I've used at LUT. My task is to find out how the environmental impacts change if the paramenres of computer keyboard are changed.

I've taken down one computer keyboard ealier this week and I've been counting how many different pieces there are (around 150). Yesterday and today I've been measuring the different parts on their size and weight. Today I start characterising the materials so that I have enough information for the assessment.
